About Us

Free dental care, delivered with dignity, since 2009.

Smiles Bring Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by two dentists who refused to accept that some children get care and others get pain.

What Drives Us

Mission, Vision, and Values

Our Mission

Smiles Bring Hope is dedicated to improving lives through compassion, support, and meaningful community impact. We spread kindness, promote wellness, and restore confidence one smile at a time.

Our Vision

A world where every smile inspires hope, confidence, and opportunity, where no child is left behind because their family cannot afford a dentist.

Our Values

Compassion. Hope. Integrity. Community. Empowerment. Inclusion. Impact. Seven words that define who we are and how we serve.

Our Origin

It started in 2009 with a simple conviction.

Smiles Bring Hope was incorporated in New York on September 3, 2009, but the conviction behind it was older. Dr. Sabita Smail (DDS, MBA) and Dr. Douglas Smail had spent years in clinical practice watching the same pattern repeat: children whose families could afford dental care got it, and children whose families could not lived with pain, infection, and the long shadow that throws over a young life.

They decided to do something about it. Not as a side project. Not as charity tacked onto a busy practice. As a mission.

From the first international trip to the most recent community clinic, the model has stayed the same: trained clinicians, the same standard of care a paying patient would receive, no questions about ability to pay, ever.

Our Leadership

DDS, MBA

Dr. Sabita Smail brings clinical excellence and operational discipline to every Smiles Bring Hope mission. A practicing dentist with an MBA, she has led the organization since its founding in 2009, building partnerships across continents and overseeing the clinical standards that define the work.

Her conviction is simple: children deserve dental care delivered with the same dignity and skill regardless of who can pay.

Dr. Douglas Smail

DDS

Dr. Douglas Smail co-founded Smiles Bring Hope alongside his wife Dr. Sabita Smail in 2009. A dentist with deep roots in the Troy, NY community, he has volunteered on missions across multiple continents and remains hands-on in clinical work, partnership building, and program development.

His approach to service has stayed grounded in faith, family, and the conviction that healthcare given freely is one of the most powerful expressions of love in action.

A Lifetime of Missions

Three continents. Hundreds of clinics. One conviction.

Smiles Bring Hope has worked across multiple continents since 2009, partnering with churches, community organizations, dental schools, and global health groups to bring full mobile dental clinics to communities where access to a dentist is out of reach.

The work has taken our team to the Dominican Republic, to Kenya, to Nicaragua, and to underserved communities right here in the United States. The scale changes. The model does not.

Kenya is where we learned how to do this. The New Hope Dental Clinic and the years of medical camps that came before it are the foundation everything else stands on. What we are planning toward now is the Dominican Republic and St. Lucia, and we are looking for long term partners to help us get there.

What we bring is not surplus or seconds. It is the same standard of care our founders provide in their own practices, delivered freely, delivered with respect.

Faith and Service

Healthcare, given freely, is love made visible.

Smiles Bring Hope is a faith-based organization. Our work is rooted in the conviction that service to others, especially to children, is one of the highest callings a person can answer.

We partner with churches and faith-based organizations because we have learned, over years of mission work, that families often trust their congregation more than any clinic. By meeting communities where they already gather, we remove a barrier between a child and the care they need.

Our faith shapes how we serve. It does not shape who we serve. Every child is welcome. Every family is welcome. Every smile matters.
